Workshops to help families transition farms to future generations

Is your family looking to transition the management of your family farm to the next generation at some stage down the track?

Rural Business Support is seeking 28 South Australian farming families to take part in its new Farm Management for Transition project. Over three half-day workshops, the program helps families plan for succession of the family farm when the time is right.

Workshops will be held on the Eyre Peninsula during March:

Cummins: Tuesday March 20 (full day workshop)

Cleve: Wednesday March 21 (follow-up half day workshop to March 6 sessions.)

Streaky Bay: Thursday March 22 (full day workshop)

Workshops are also planned for the South East, with dates to be confirmed soon. (Locations will be determined by where the majority of registrants will be travelling from.) The Aussie Farmers Foundation is generously funding the project, so it is free for registered farming families to take part.

Farm Business Advisor John Christensen will help families answer these questions:

  • Where is our farm going and how will we get there?
  • What is the best management system for our farm’s future?
  • Do we have the right business skills to implement this system and keep our farm on track?

Participants receive practical tools and processes that can be implemented on-farm to improve communication, resolve conflicts and align personal aspirations with the farming business goals.

“Through delivery of the well known Rural Financial Counselling Service and our other farm business programs, RBS understands that for succession to be successful, the key people need to have the right business skills, knowledge and personal aspirations to transition into management,” John said.

“We know that every farming business is unique. Your farm requires a management system that reflects your family’s values and beliefs, while bringing into alignment each family member’s aspirations.”

Rural Business Support delivers a range of programs and services that support the development of competitive, profitable and resilient primary industry businesses.
