Austin joined RBS in June 2020 and brings more than four decades of experience across rural finance, agribusiness banking and rural financial counselling. He began his career with the Department of Agriculture in the late 1970s and was involved in the Rural Financial Counselling Program from its early days, working closely with farming families across regional South Australia. He later spent a decade as an Agribusiness Bank Manager, giving him a well-rounded understanding of farm finance from both a client and lender perspective.
Throughout his career, Austin has worked with clients across many regions of South Australia and across a wide range of primary production systems, including broadacre farming, livestock, horticulture and fishing. His long-term involvement in rural finance has given him a practical understanding of production cycles, seasonal pressures and the financial challenges that can build over time. This experience allows him to offer grounded, steady support tailored to each client’s circumstances.
Austin is a qualified Conveyancer and Registered Mortgage and Finance Broker, with studies in Accountancy and Business Law. Known for his calm, approachable manner, he takes the time to listen and work alongside clients to help them better understand their business and make informed decisions that support long-term viability. As he often says, “Every day is a challenge, but there is always something to learn and improve to make things better for all concerned.”
Outside of work, Austin and his wife enjoy spending time with their four children and three grandchildren. He has volunteered for more than 25 years with Motor Sport Fire and Rescue, supporting events across Australia and New Zealand, and enjoys motorcycling. At home, the family’s greyhound keeps everyone company.
