Help with applying for FHA

Farm Household Allowance (FHA) is an Australian Government support package for eligible farmers and their partners experiencing hardship (including drought) for up to four cumulative years (1460 days).

If you’ve decided to find out if FHA is right for your circumstances, Rural Business Support’s rural financial counsellors can help you to apply for the payment if you’re eligible.

A rural financial counsellor can then work with you for up to three years to explore and implement ways through the current industry challenges, become more profitable and feel more confident about the future. Our team supports farming families in a number of ways – from assisting with the sometimes complex process of applying for FHA, to putting together cash flow budgets and looking at other potential options to build profitability, to helping you prepare for banker meetings.

The Australian Government recently made some important changes to the FHA program:

  • Eligible farmers and their partners will now receive up to two lump sum supplementary payments worth up to a total of $12,000 per household
  • The assets threshold will be temporarily increased to $5 million to allow more farmers to access FHA support

The Department of Human Services also has a FHA fact sheet that explains a bit more about the FHA assistance. For a copy please tap here.
